Project description

The constitution of a reference sample in genetic epidemiology and population genetics in Quebec was initiated few years ago. The aim of this project is to characterize the genetic diversity of individuals among the Quebec population.

The genomic samples are characterized :

genetically - by analyzing mitochondrial and Y chromosome markers, as well as GW genotyping with the Illumina 650Y platform, and

demographically - by building their genealogical history using BALSAC database.

The main objective of the reference sample is to share data and analysis with the scientific community. The reference sample consists of Quebec subjects representing various regional populations of Quebec, recruited without any medical biased. This sample can serve as a reference for studies on Mendelian diseases and complex traits. This study will contribute to the overall improvement of healthcare and impact on policy and planning in the health sector in Quebec.

This project is funded by the Réseau Réseau de Médecine Génétique Appliquée of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec. It was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Ste-Justine Hospital Research Center affiliated to the Université de Montréal.
