BALSAC Project

The BALSAC Project population data comes from civil records of Quebec (primarily marriage certificates) that can be reconstructed automatically in individual and family genealogies. The database covers all regions of Quebec since the beginning of the 17th century until recent years.

The BALSAC Project is used for scientific research purposes. It is used in many different disciplines. Some are social sciences such as geography, history and demography. Others belong to biomedical sciences such as population genetics and genetic epidemiology.

The BALSAC database allows us to draw the demogenetic portrait of the Quebec population since the early settlement of European origin until 1960. For examples of these statistical analyses on married individuals, ( that may have contributed genetically to the current population), go to the BALSAC Project website. In addition to obtaining information on the Quebec population, you will discover the vast potential of the database.
